The first major order for electric buses has been delivered to the Hamburger Hochbahn after about one year. The new fleet is already in service.

Just over a year ago, Hamburger Hochbahn presented its first fully electric bus to the public - meanwhile, all 30 electric vehicles ordered at that time have been delivered.

20 eCitaro e-buses came from the Mercedes subsidiary Evobus, while 10 more Urbino nE12 electric vehicles were supplied by the Polish manufacturer Solaris. The delivery of the next outstanding 30 electric buses - 25 eCitaro and five Urbino 12 electric - will take place in 2020. These vehicles should then have a guaranteed range of 200 kilometers.

As Hamburger Hochbahn announces, the new e-bus fleet has already covered more than 200,000 kilometers. Both bus types are around 12 meters long standard buses with a range of around 150 kilometers. The charging of the batteries is done exclusively overnight.

The Hochbahn plans in the period from 2021 to 2025 the purchase of up to 530 electric buses. The total fleet of currently 1,000 vehicles is scheduled to be converted by 2030.

Achieving this goal has become a race against time over the past few years, as the German automotive industry has long been unable to offer production-ready and everyday vehicles. Only a year ago, Mercedes was able to present its first production-standard all-electric standard bus.
