Honda has been making waves in the electric car market with its Honda e hatchback, a cute and compact urban runabout that offers a fun driving experience and a high-tech interior. But what if you want something more versatile, more rugged, and more spacious? Enter the Honda e.Ny1, a new electric crossover that combines the charm and efficiency of the Honda e with the capability and practicality of an SUV.

The Honda e.Ny1 is based on the same platform as the Honda e, but it has a longer wheelbase, a taller ride height, and a more muscular body. It also has a larger battery pack, a more powerful electric motor, and an all-wheel-drive system that can handle different terrains and weather conditions. The Honda e.Ny1 is designed to appeal to adventurous drivers who want to explore new places without compromising on comfort, performance, or sustainability.

What's New for 2025?

The Honda e.Ny1 is an all-new model for 2025, joining the Honda e as the second member of Honda's electric car lineup. It is expected to go on sale in Europe and Japan in late 2024, followed by North America in early 2025. The Honda e.Ny1 will compete with other electric crossovers such as the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Kia e-Soul, and the Volkswagen ID.4.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Honda has not announced the official pricing for the Honda e.Ny1 yet, but we expect it to start around $40,000 in the U.S., which is about $5000 more than the Honda e. The Honda e.Ny1 will likely come in two trim levels: base and Advance. The base model will have standard features such as LED headlights and taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a wireless charging pad, a digital gauge cluster, automatic climate control, keyless entry and start, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. The Advance model will add features such as LED fog lights, 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, a head-up display, a heated steering wheelheated front seatsleather upholstery, a premium sound system, a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and parking sensors.

We think the base model offers enough features for most buyers, but if you want to splurge on some extra luxuries, the Advance model is worth considering. Either way, you'll get a stylish and spacious electric crossover that's ready for anything.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Honda e.Ny1 is powered by a single electric motor that drives all four wheels through an electronic torque-vectoring system. The electric motor produces 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to propel the crossover from zero to 60 mph in about 8 seconds. The motor draws power from a 38.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides an estimated range of 200 miles on a single charge. The battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes using a DC fast charger or in about six hours using a Level 2 charger.

The Honda e.Ny1 is not just about efficiency; it's also about fun. The crossover has a sporty chassis that delivers agile handling and responsive steering. The suspension is tuned to provide a comfortable ride while also minimizing body roll and understeer. The brakes are strong and smooth, with regenerative braking that helps extend the battery life. The Honda e.Ny1 also has three driving modes: Normal, Sport, and Eco. Normal mode provides a balanced performance for everyday driving; Sport mode sharpens the throttle response and steering feel for more excitement; Eco mode reduces the power output and increases the regenerative braking for maximum range.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Honda e.Ny1 has a spacious and modern interior that can accommodate up to five passengers comfortably. The cabin is filled with high-quality materials and clever design touches that create a cozy and futuristic atmosphere. The dashboard features a minimalist layout with two large screens: one for the digital gauge cluster and one for the infotainment system. The screens can be customized to show different information and functions, such as navigation, audio, climate, and vehicle settings. The infotainment system also supports voice control and over-the-air updates.

The Honda e.Ny1 also has some unique features that enhance the driving experience and the safety of the occupants. For example, the crossover has side cameras instead of conventional mirrors, which reduce wind noise and improve aerodynamics. The images from the cameras are displayed on two smaller screens on the door panels, which can be adjusted for different angles and brightness levels. The Honda e.Ny1 also has a rearview camera that can be switched on or off with a button on the rearview mirror. The camera provides a wider and clearer view of the traffic behind the vehicle than a regular mirror.

The seats in the Honda e.Ny1 are comfortable and supportive, with plenty of headroom and legroom for both front and rear passengers. The front seats have power adjustment and lumbar support, while the rear seats have a 60/40 split-folding function that allows for more cargo space when needed. The cargo area in the Honda e.Ny1 is generous, with 18 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 45 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded down. The cargo floor is flat and has a hidden storage compartment underneath. The Honda e.Ny1 also has a small front trunk that can hold a few small items or the charging cable.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Honda e.Ny1 comes with a comprehensive suite of safety and driver-assistance features that help prevent accidents and protect the occupants in case of a collision. Some of the standard features include:

  • Forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking: This system warns the driver of a potential frontal collision and applies the brakes automatically if necessary.
  • Lane-keeping assist: This system helps keep the vehicle in its lane by applying gentle steering corrections if it detects an unintentional lane departure.
  • Adaptive cruise control: This system maintains a set speed and distance from the vehicle ahead, adjusting to the traffic flow automatically.
  • Blind-spot monitoring: This system alerts the driver of vehicles in the blind spots on either side of the vehicle.
  • Rear cross-traffic alert: This system warns the driver of approaching vehicles when reversing out of a parking spot or driveway.
  • Parking sensors: These sensors help the driver park safely by detecting obstacles around the vehicle and providing audible and visual feedback.

The Honda e.Ny1 also has some optional features that can be added for extra convenience and security, such as:

  • Head-up display: This feature projects key information onto the windshield, such as speed, navigation directions, and driver-assistance alerts.
  • 360-degree camera system: This feature provides a bird's-eye view of the vehicle and its surroundings on the infotainment screen, making parking and maneuvering easier.
  • Honda Sensing Elite: This feature is an advanced version of Honda's driver-assistance system that enables hands-free driving on certain highways. The system uses cameras, radar, GPS, and map data to control the speed, steering, braking, and lane changes of the vehicle.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Honda offers a competitive warranty and maintenance coverage for its electric vehicles, including:

  • Limited warranty: covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • Battery warranty: covers 8 years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary maintenance: covers 2 years or 24,000 miles
