After eight years of steady growth, Hyundai has become one of the biggest brands in Norway. Especially since the groundbreaking IONIQ model came out in 2016, the arrows have been pointing up, and Norwegians have been rushing to the dealers to get a new Hyundai.
As the world leader in electric cars, Norway has been an excellent place for Hyundai to start selling electric cars. The IONIQ quickly became one of the most popular electric cars on the market, and sales stayed high until the last car was delivered just before Christmas this year. When the Hyundai KONA electric car came out in 2018, it started a small revolution in the electric car market. It had a long-range, a reasonable price, and a crossover shape that made it popular with Norwegian and European customers. It led to 8,000 pre-orders in Norway, and sales have meant that the Hyundai KONA electric car has been one of the most popular electric cars in the country for the past few years.
Since then, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 has come out and has many of the same features that customers want. Customers want a long-range electric car that can be charged quickly, has a lot of space and is shaped like an SUV. The Hyundai IONIQ 5, one of the most advanced electric cars on the market, is Norway's fifth best-selling car so far this year.
Hyundai has decided only to sell plug-ins and electric cars in Norway in 2020. This is possible thanks to exciting plug-in hybrid models like the Hyundai TUCSON Plug-In Hybrid and the Hyundai SANTA FE Plug-In Hybrid. But as we move into 2023, Hyundai will reach a new milestone in the Norwegian market.
By the end of 2022, Hyundai will have sold its last plug-in hybrid. On January 1, 2023, Norway will be the first market where Hyundai will only sell electric cars.
"We have a lot of faith in the models we already have, and now that we've released the brand-new Hyundai IONIQ 6, it's time to stop selling gas-powered cars in Norway and only sell electric cars there. Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Hyundai KONA electric cars are two of the most popular cars on the market. We are sure that our pure electric cars will continue to bring us success in the coming years, " Thomas Rosvold, who is in charge of running Hyundai Motor Norway, says this.
"We recently saw the first pictures of the 2023 Hyundai KONA electric car, which will be bigger, more stylish, and faster than the current model. We are set up for an all-electric future. This is because many new ideas are coming in the next few years."
Hyundai already has the most electric cars on the Norwegian market. Large, independent market surveys show that customers most strongly associate electric cars with established brands that also make cars that run on fossil fuels.
The brand has a strong history, and for many years, it has made electric cars with great strengths, such as high efficiency, long range, and innovations like 800V lightning charging, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), and groundbreaking space utilization thanks to the advanced electric car platform E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform).
In 2022, 93% of the cars sold by Hyundai Motor Norway will be electric cars. In Norway, electric cars have made up more than 90% of sales in the past few years. Between 2020 and 2022, the brand will have sold 25,000 passenger cars in Norway, of which 92% are fully electric cars. Because of this, Hyundai has become one of the most popular electric car brands in Norway.
