The Hyundai IONIQ 5 wins a slew of awards at the World Car Awards, including global World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, and World Electric Vehicle of the Year. Thus, Hyundai IONIQ 5 outperformed 27 competitors across various pricing points and segments in the automobile industry. The World Car Awards announced the winner during an event held in conjunction with the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS).

IONIQ 5 was selected by a panel of 102 automotive journalists from 33 countries. The electric car was praised for its innovative features, fantastic range, and avant-garde styling. As a result, the IONIQ 5 electric vehicle has already garnered a slew of awards on a global scale, ultimately defeating a problematic field of competitors.

IONIQ 5 is the first model in Hyundai's IONIQ electric vehicle lineup. The vehicle uses the ground-breaking electric vehicle architecture E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), including 800V charging technology for lightning-fast charging. Additionally, the platform provides IONIQ 5 with colossal room and versatility, owing to features such as a three-meter wheelbase. With rear-wheel drive and the new 77.4 kWh battery pack available starting with the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5, the electric car is predicted to have a range of more than 500 kilometers. As with previous generations, the automobile has innovative technology such as Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), cutting-edge safety and driver support systems, and connected solutions that deliver an unparalleled onboard experience.

"We are thrilled to win these distinguished honors, which highlight the skill and effort invested in Hyundai Motor Company by all of our workers and partners. Our objective is to enable humanity's growth. This validation of our strategy will motivate us to strive even harder to make the vision a reality", according to Jaehoon Chang, President, and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company.

Hyundai is undertaking a complete transition from a traditional automobile manufacturer to a supplier of intelligent mobility. The firm is advancing its electrification plan to become the world's top electric vehicle producer. By 2023, Hyundai wants to offer 17 all-electric vehicles, including those from the premium brand Genesis. The business expects to sell 1.87 million electrified cars in the same year.

"Hyundai IONIQ 5 is a watershed moment in our efforts to usher in a new age of smart mobility by using the E-GMP platform's technological innovations, excellent performance, and ground-breaking approach to design and space. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has greatly impacted an expanding number of established consumers worldwide, and the car's success demonstrates the automotive industry's progress toward electrification. Hyundai's rapid growth will continue through 2022, and we will shortly debut the latest addition to our award-winning IONIQ lineup," Jaehoon Chang said.

The IONIQ 5 is ushering in a new design age for Hyundai, characterized by what the designers call «Parametric Dynamics,» in which energetic and sharp forms define the electric car's visual identity. The distinctive crossover's exterior design is characterized by clean, crisp lines that transmit the vehicle's dynamic presence on the road and parametric pixel lighting that creates a memorable impression from both the front and back.

Inside, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 makes the most of the platform's extended wheelbase of up to 3,000 millimeters, with innovative features such as a movable center console that allows for greater mobility. In addition, numerous surfaces onboard are built from eco-friendly materials, including organically treated leather seats, sustainable fibers sprayed with bio-based paint, and the revolutionary material used in the doors. All of this reflects shoppers' intentional desire to purchase ethical and ecological products.

"With IONIQ 5, we set out to develop an entirely new mobility experience - a game-changer," according to SangYup Lee, senior manager and head of Hyundai's global design center.

This exceptional automobile was made possible by designers and engineers' enthusiastic and concentrated efforts who pushed the boundaries of what is possible with an electric vehicle.

IONIQ 5 was selected as the World Car of the Year from a field of 28 contestants and three finalists. To be considered for the assessment basis, a vehicle must be produced in quantities of at least 10,000 units per year, be priced below the luxury level in the major markets, and be sold in at least two significant markets on at least two continents between January 1, 2021, and March 30, 2022.

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 was named the World Electric Vehicle of the Year following a competition with ten other vehicles. A jury of six specialists from France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States selected the World Car Design of the Year. IONIQ 5 outperformed all competitors in each of the five divisions of this year's World Car Awards based on design and innovation criteria.

"We are honored to be a part of the world's most prestigious automobile award program," said Mark Schienberg, the New York Auto Show president.

"We are also delighted to welcome folks back to the fair today to see the live announcement of the winner. The previous two years have been difficult for everyone, but automobile consumers are finally ready to come here and see and experience the industry's great new vehicles and innovations. All of the finalists deserve congratulations."

The annual World Vehicle Awards honor the best design of the year, the best luxury car, the best performance car (Audi e-tron GT), the best city car, the best electric car of the year, and the best car of the year overall. In February, the jury chose Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Hyundai Motor Group, as the 2022 World Car Person of the Year. This is in recognition of his significant contribution to developing new models, notably the IONIQ 5.

"The Hyundai IONIQ 5 stands out as a terrific product, and we are very proud to have won in every category available at this year's World Car Awards. The distinction as the World's Car of the Year, in particular, will serve as a milestone. The automobile has been another game-changer for Hyundai, and to say that the people have welcomed the IONIQ 5 is an understatement. The combination of technological advancements, a long-range, unconventional, and unique design, and ground-breaking flexibility and space solutions, makes the automobile ideal for the Norwegian market, according to Øyvind L. Knudsen, Product and PR manager of Hyundai.

"The fact that we can now add World Car of the Year to our lengthy list of awards puts us in a league of our own, and all we can do is look ahead to the future and innovations from Hyundai."
