The Fiat 500e is one of the freshest and most easy-to-drive electric cars, but that does not mean it is perfect. The new 500e is eight inches longer and wider than the original, and the wheelbase is four inches longer. So there should be a little more space in the cabin. Stylish design tricks such as round LED front lights that are embedded in the bonnet or hidden door handles differentiate the new Fiat 500e electric car from its older predecessors.

The interior is kept in the retro design of its predecessor. There are optional smooth leather seats and a leather steering wheel, but in small places, the material such as cheap hard plastic and poor execution leaves a lot to be desired. The fold-out cup holder in the centre console is cleverly designed. On the other hand, the Fiat 500e electric car shines with a practical, deep shelf in the centre console and a large panoramic roof.

Depending on the chosen engine, the Fiat 500e electric car comes with two battery options: 23.8 kWh for the electric motor with 95 hp and 220 Nm, and 42 kWh for the electric motor with 118 hp and 220 Nm. In the 500e version with a 42 kWh battery (37.3 kWh net), the Fiat 500e can cover up to 314 kilometres. In the case of the Fiat 500e Cabrio version, the maximum range decreases to 303 kilometres.

The infotainment system is operated by the driver via a central 10.25-inch touchscreen. The smartphone connection via Apple Carplay or Android Auto works just as smoothly as inductive charging. The navigation via Google Maps is displayed in an easy-to-read landscape format and works just as easily as on a mobile phone.

The Fiat 500e electric city car can be easily and completely charged both on the road and at home. Fiat offers various solutions for home charging and has collaboration agreements with principal charging networks. On the go, you can use both standard charging stations and fast-charging stations at 85 kW. You will need only 35 minutes to charge the battery from 0 to 80% at a fast-charging station. The maximum charging power will be 11 kW at home, and the recharging time (from 0 to 100%) will be 4 hours and 15 minutes.

In terms of driver assistance systems, the new Fiat 500e electric car is fully equipped for a small car. The adaptive cruise control and the lane departure warning system work well in everyday life. The traffic sign recognition with optional speed acceptance works very well and is easy to use in traffic. The Fiat 500e can easily and comfortably accommodate two adults. There is very little space in the back for adults, but the space is okay for children.

The Fiat 500e electric city car provides the driver with three practical driving modes: Normal, Range and Sherpa. In Normal mode, the Fiat 500e can use its full power and maximum torque. The Range mode enables driving only with the accelerator pedal; when the driver takes off its foot, the electric motor brakes and supplies energy back into the battery. The economical mode of the 500e is called Sherpa and restricts the engine power, the top speed is limited to 80 km / h and turns off the air conditioning; this mode should enable especially large ranges.

The starting price for the Fiat 500e is 27,000 euros in the case of the 95 hp hatchback model, respectively 34,9000 euros in the case of the Cabrio model.

The standard equipment provided by Fiat is quite generous. The Fiat 500e electric car with the Action equipment in place has air conditioning, 7-inch digital instrument panel, 3 driving modes, LED daytime running lights and taillights, electric windows, electric mirrors, fast charging, automatic emergency braking, driver monitoring system, lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition system.

The trunk is also quite small at 185 litres but sufficiently dimensioned for everyday life. For larger purchases, you have to fold down the rear seats and you'll get then 550 litres of usable storage space.

Technical specifications

Performance specs:

Acceleration 0 - 100 km/h - 9.5 seconds

Maximum speed - 135 km/h

Dimensions:

Height - 1527 mm

Wheelbase - 2322 mm

I don't like the price. And I say this because in the small segment you will find three models with similar performance: Opel Corsa-e, Peugeot e-208 and Renault Zoe are the three sub-compact hatchbacks that offer more space for less money. But I like everything else. (via fiat.com)
