The new Toyota bZ4X electric SUV is designed on a specialized new platform for electric automobiles utilizing the eTNGA principle and is the first in a series of new bZ (Beyond Zero) vehicles. The Toyota bZ4X delivers stylish style, plenty of room, and actual SUV performance. It also marks the introduction of a unique four-wheel-drive system that combines independent electric motors on the front and rear axles to give excellent characteristics.

Thanks to efficient motors and energy management, the official, type-approved WLTP numbers reveal that the front-wheel-drive model achieves a range of up to 511 km on a fully charged battery, with a consumption of 14.5 kWh / 100 km. For four-wheel-drive bZ4X, the official range is up to 466 km with a consumption of 16.0 kWh / 100 km.

This level of performance is made possible by a 71.4 kWh battery, which has been designed based on Toyota's electrification knowledge and expertise for over a quarter of a century. In addition, the quality of the battery is reinforced by an optional extended maintenance contract for owners, which guarantees a battery capacity of 70 percent after ten years or 1,000,000 km traveled.

The first client deliveries will take place from the summer of 2022. Toyota will begin accepting orders for the bZ4X electric SUV on 1 April.

Toyota bZ4X is a big, luxurious electric SUV with an entirely new four-wheel-drive system. It boasts class-leading off-road capabilities and performance with individual electric motors for each axle. It is the first model designed by Toyota from the start as an electric car and the first to be based on its new platform for battery electric automobiles. Based on the eTNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) principle, the battery unit is an intrinsic element of the chassis under the floor. This gives various advantages, including the low center of gravity, excellent weight distribution in front/back, superb stiffness and high strength in the structure, and features that contribute favorably to safety, comfort, and driving characteristics.

The exterior boasts a solid and attractive appearance. The front features a redesigned form with thin trademark lights and distinct corners that improve breadth and road contact sensation. As seen from the side, the automobile is low with thin A-pillars and a soft shoulder line that represents the low center of gravity. The wheel arches and the vast wheels (up to 20 '') oriented towards the car's corners and distinct profiles at the bottom of the doors give the car a genuinely SUV appearance. At the back, the design attention is on the corners that have distinctive taillights spread out across the whole width of the electric SUV.

The instrument panel is thin and set low to add to the sensation of openness and a good view ahead. The idea of "hands on the steering wheel, eyes on the road" is reinforced by a driver's seat where a 7-inch TFT instrument and information display are situated in the driver's line of sight front above the steering wheel. The legroom is good for everyone, with a space of 1 meter between the hip locations in front and behind. The baggage compartment has a capacity of 452 liters when the rear seats are in use.

The front-wheel-drive bZ4X features a 150 kW electric motor that delivers 204 hp and a torque of 265 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h takes 8.4 seconds, and the top speed is 160 km / h. The variant with AWD (further specifications below) has 217 hp and a torque of 336 Nm. The highest speed remains unaltered, while the acceleration time to 100 km / h is decreased to 7.7 seconds.

Toyota has harnessed its knowledge from more than 25 years of developing battery technology for electric cars to guarantee that the bZ4X's lithium-ion battery has first-class quality, longevity, and dependability. Toyota's reliance on this technology is reflected in an extended service program that assures that the battery will still supply 70 percent of its original capacity after up to 10 years of driving or 1,000,000 km, providing the owner does an annual health check at an approved Toyota workshop. I think this means that the new Toyota bZ4X electric SUV offers a 1,000,000 km warranty. Still, I wonder what is the price of the electric car maintenance in an approved Toyota workshop for a 1,000,000 km warranty.

A key to battery quality and longevity is monitoring voltage, current, and temperature down to the cell level. If anomalous heat generation is identified, automated control actions are started. Countermeasures are in place to limit any material degradation and safety measures in manufacturing to prevent undesired chemicals from entering the battery. For the first time in a Toyota, a water-cooled battery is utilized.

Thanks to an excellent heating system, the car's outstanding performance, and range are maintained even in cold conditions. The new Toyota bZ4X electric SUV features a heat pump that pulls heat from the external air to heat the vehicle, which has more efficiency and needs less energy than standard air conditioners. For added comfort in the passenger compartment, the automobile comes with infrared radiant heat under the steering column and dashboard that warms the feet and legs of the driver and front passenger.

The battery has a high density and a capacity of 71.4 kWh. It is intended to give a range of around 511 kilometers. The range will vary from model to model, and the number is provisional, pending formal type certification. The battery may be swiftly charged without risks to safety or life. Charging to 80 percent takes roughly 30 minutes with 150 kW fast charging. From the 4th quarter of 2022, an onboard charger of 11 kW for three-phase systems will be available, which will offer quicker charging.

The bZ4X electric SUV is equipped with innovative Toyota T-Mate technologies for active safety and driver assistance. The third-generation Toyota Safety Sense comes with new and enhanced technologies that assist lower the danger of an even broader spectrum of accidents and incidents. Thanks to the improved front camera and radar and front side radars, the safety has been enhanced. The car's ability to spot risks and impediments in even more traffic scenarios has been substantially improved. In addition, the brand new sophisticated parking feature employs 4 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors to guide the electric SUV in and out of parking places to make it as easy as possible.

The aim is for most new sales in Europe to take place via a wholly new lease arrangement with everything included. It includes the automobile, maintenance, charging box, and access to connected services, including one of Europe's largest charging networks. Toyota insurance can also be included if consumers choose, along with roadside assistance and automobile accessories. Toyota will work with its dealers to ensure that clients obtain the optimum solution for their mobility needs with products that consider the varied stages of maturity of battery-powered automobiles throughout Europe.
