Volkswagen has presented at the Shanghai Salon a new member, in concept format, of its ID range of electric vehicles, the Roomzz, a large 4x4 SUV made to compete with the Tesla Model X.

Volkswagen ID. Roomzz is developed on the MEB platform that Volkswagen has created specifically for its ID range. The MEB platform is designed for many types of electric vehicles and consequently with high flexibility, which will allow using one or two motors and different sizes of batteries.

Volkswagen ID. Roomzz measures 4.92 m long and 1.89 m wide, accommodates 7 seats divided into three rows and has two engines, one on each axis, totalling 225 kW (306 hp) and a battery of 82 kWh, with which travels an average autonomy of 450 kilometres under WLTP regulations. It can be charged up to 80% in just half an hour with a fast-charging system.

The maximum speed of the Roomzz ID is limited to 180 km / h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds.

The Volkswagen ID. ROOMZZ also has the particularity of offering electric and sliding doors.

The ID. Roomzz launches the IQ.DRIVE system that would allow taking on Level 4 autonomous driving, which legalises driving without the need for driver supervision. Thus, the cabin is configured in such a way that if we choose the autonomous driving mode, the steering wheel retracts into the dashboard and the seats can be turned up to 25 degrees inwards, to create a more pleasant and communicative space between the passengers.

Volkswagen ID. Roomzz design is a combination of simple, uniform lines. Smooth transitions between individual parts of the body make the electric SUV look nobler while providing good aerodynamics. The material that covers the seats is unique, an invention of the German manufacturer. It is called AppleSkinTM and it is an artificial leather that contains 20% plant matter, from apple juice.

Volkswagen ID. ROOMZZ can be admired from 18 - 26 April at Auto Shanghai 2019, one of China's largest automotive trade shows.

The production version will first come to market in 2021 in China.
