Volkswagen has chosen the 2018 Geneva Motor Show for the official launch of the I.D. VIZZION electric sedan. This is the fourth vehicle of the line announced by the German company after the ID, the ID Crozz SUV and the ID Buzz minivan.

The ID Vizzion aims to fit among the electric cars with greater autonomy. The fully electric range of the car is up to 650 kilometers.

The most interesting part, however, is represented by the absence of steering wheel and pedals, replaced by a level 5 autonomous driving technology. Still, some doubts about the maturity of this technology remains. The arrival on the market of the Volkswagen ID Vizzion was announced for 2022 and many steps are to be taken to reach a level of full reliability for this kind of automation.

“In a vision of what may be possible by the year 2030, the I.D. VIZZION’s ‘digital chauffeur’ assumes control of the vehicle—without a steering wheel or visible controls. The concept car drives, steers and navigates autonomously in traffic, enabling passengers to sit back and enjoy the ride. A virtual ‘host’ knows the personal preferences of the vehicle guests and it adapts to each of them individually. Interaction with the I.D. VIZZION is possible via augmented reality and newly designed mixed reality eyewear—the HOLOLENSTM developed by Microsoft®.”
