The Mitsubishi Colt, a nameplate that has been around since 1962, has just landed in the Spanish market after a long absence. The new Colt is not a completely original model but a rebadged version of the Renault Clio, one of the best-selling cars in Europe. The Colt shares the same platform, engines, and most of the design features with the Clio, but it also has some distinctive elements that make it a Mitsubishi product. Here are some of the main characteristics and specifications of the new Colt, as well as its prices and promotions in Spain.

A familiar design with some tweaks

The new Mitsubishi Colt is based on the recently facelifted Renault Clio, launched in 2019 and updated in 2021. The Colt has the same dimensions as the Clio, measuring 4.05 meters long, 1.73 meters wide, and 1.44 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.58 meters. The trunk capacity is also identical, at 391 liters, which can be expanded to 1,069 liters by folding the rear seats.

The Colt’s exterior design is very similar to the Clio’s, but it has some minor changes to the grille, bumpers, and lights to give it a more Mitsubishi-like appearance. The Colt has a more prominent front grille with a chrome frame and a large Mitsubishi logo in the center. The headlights are slightly different, with a sharper shape and LED technology. The front bumper has a lower air intake and two fog lights on the sides. The side profile is almost identical to the Clio’s, except for the Colt’s logo on the front fenders and the different alloy wheels. The rear end is also very similar, with the same taillights, spoiler, and diffuser, but with a different badge and exhaust tip.

The Colt’s interior is virtually identical to the Clio’s, save for the different logos on the steering wheel and the removal of the French flag on the passenger side of the dashboard. The Colt has the same dashboard layout, with a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a climate control panel. The Colt also has the same materials, colors, and finishes as the Clio, with a soft-touch upper part and a hard plastic lower part. The Colt offers the same level of comfort, space, and ergonomics as the Clio, with adjustable seats, a multifunction steering wheel, and various storage compartments.

A range of engines with a hybrid option

The new Mitsubishi Colt inherits the powertrains from the Renault Clio, which are also shared with the Dacia Sandero. The Colt offers three engine options, all of them gasoline-powered, with different levels of power and efficiency. The base version comes with a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine that produces 66 horsepower and 95 Newton meters of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and has a fuel consumption of 5.3 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions of 120 grams per kilometer.

The next option is a turbocharged 1.0-liter, three-cylinder engine that delivers 90 horsepower and 160 Newton-meters of torque. This engine can be coupled with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The fuel consumption of this engine is 4.8 liters per 100 kilometers, and the CO2 emissions are 109 grams per kilometer with the manual gearbox, 5.1 liters per 100 kilometers, and 116 grams per kilometer with the automatic gearbox.

The top-of-the-range option is a hybrid system that combines a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 1.2-kWh battery pack. The total output of this system is 141 horsepower and 253 Newton-meters of torque. The hybrid system is mated to an automatic transmission and has a fuel consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers and CO2 emissions of 82 grams per kilometer. The hybrid system also has a brake energy recovery function and can run on electric mode for short distances.

A competitive equipment and safety level

The new Mitsubishi Colt offers a competitive level of equipment and safety features comparable to the Renault Clio and other rivals in the segment. The Colt is available in three trim levels: Base, Intense, and Zen. The Base trim level includes the following features:

A competitive price and promotion

The new Mitsubishi Colt has a competitive price in the Spanish market, starting from 14,900 euros ($16,800) for the base version with the 66-horsepower engine and the manual gearbox. The price goes up to 16,900 euros ($19,000) for the same version with the 90-horsepower engine and the manual gearbox and to 18,400 euros ($20,700) for the same version with the automatic gearbox. The hybrid version starts from 20,900 euros ($23,500) for the base trim level and goes up to 24,900 euros ($28,000) for the Zen trim level.

However, these prices can be reduced significantly thanks to a promotion that Mitsubishi is offering until the end of November 2023. The promotion consists of a discount of 2,500 euros ($2,800) for the base version, 3,000 euros ($3,400) for the Intense version, and 3,500 euros ($3,900) for the Zen version. In addition, the promotion includes a five-year warranty, a five-year maintenance service, and a five-year roadside assistance service. With this promotion, the Colt becomes one of the most affordable cars in its segment, undercutting the Renault Clio and other competitors.

A reborn nameplate with a promising future

The new Mitsubishi Colt is a reborn nameplate that aims to revive the brand’s presence in the Spanish market, where it has been losing ground in recent years. The Colt is not a completely new model but a rebadged version of the Renault Clio, one of the most successful cars in Europe. The Colt shares the same platform, engines, and most of the design features with the Clio, but it also has some distinctive elements that make it a Mitsubishi product. The Colt offers a range of engines with a hybrid option, a competitive equipment and safety level, and a competitive price and promotion. The Colt is a good option for those looking for a reliable, efficient, and well-equipped car in the subcompact segment. @via autonocion.
